The Rolex brand has been one of the most highly sought after, highly coveted luxury timepiece brand in the world. One of the more popular and iconic models will be the Rolex Oyster Perpetual and it has come a long way in becoming the masterpiece that it is now. Here is a brief history timeline of the evolution of the Rolex Oyster Perpetual.

1926 – Creation of the Rolex Oyster - the first waterproof and dustproof luxury timepiece in the world. It has a hermetically sealed Oyster case which gives the optimal protection for the watch movement. Hermetically means that it is airtight.

1931 – Evolution of the Oyster to the Oyster Perpetual which is equipped with the new Perpetual Rotor. This self-winding rotor captures the energy generated by even the slightest wrist movement so that its watch movement will never stop.

1945 – Further improvement of the Rolex Watch to become the Oyster Perpetual Datejust. The most significant difference lies in the way the date is displayed on the wristwatch – by having a small window at the 3 o’clock on the dial. The new Oyster Perpetual Datejust also has an officially certified chronometer and a practical calendar function. Rolex has set the trend and standard for future luxury timepieces.

1948 – Datejust offered the new Rolesor which is a combination of stainless steel and 18 ct gold.

1953 – Cyclops lens added to the crystal which had the effect of magnifying the date 2.5 times for easy reading.

1956 – The date was able to change instantaneously at midnight.

Today – The Oyster Perpetual Datejust has become a true Rolex classic and is available in a wide range of sizes and styles with many different bezels, dials, bracelets and materials to choose from. With so many choices at hand, you can create your own timeless Rolex icon to call your own.
